"Empowering agriculture globally through innovative science and experienced management for sustainable profitability and environmental stewardship
I have a diverse background in agriculture and animal science, beginning with farming and cattle raising in Post, Texas, and evolving through various roles including a county extension agent, ranch manager, and a faculty member at Colorado State University. Specializing in ruminant nutrition, reproduction and meat science has enabled me to contribute to both the practical and academic sides of the cattle industry. The university research was focused on reproductive strategies for beef production efficiency, innovative education in animal science, and promoting global sustainable agricultural practices. Balancing a successful career, I cherish my 35-year marriage and four adult children, placing great value on faith, family, and work.

I specialize in formulating feeds using a variety of ingredients to achieve specific goals, particularly in growing animals for various endpoints. When assisting dairy clients with nutritional needs, my approach involves utilizing their existing resources to reach their desired outcomes. The primary effort is to employ a diverse range of ingredients to formulate cost-effective rations, guiding clients in establishing sound and sustainable reproductive practices to maximize the number of pregnant animals.
For beef clients, the goal is to produce animals for meat generation and sale. Collaboratively, we use all available tools to achieve this, striving for a high-quality product for consumers at the best cost. Throughout, our commitment remains to uphold the highest standards in animal care and humane treatment. My ultimate aim is to assist clients in producing meat that I would be proud to serve to my own family and friends. If you require assistance with nutrition on your dairy, feedlot, or farm, please utilize the contact button, and I will promptly get in touch with you.
My time managing a ranch was a significant learning experience in people management, particularly as I navigated the challenges of a leadership role. At CSU, I had the privilege of designing and implementing a successful graduate degree program that equips students with the essential tools for managing a prosperous agricultural business. This program is still offered online, and I continue to teach three courses. Agricultural operations can be very diverse each with specific challenges and opportunities. Often we find reproduction issues are directly tied to nutrition or management. Many employees on the various farms are Spanish speakers. The ability to communicate important concepts in their preferred language has proven to reduce miscommunication due to translation. Working in an education environment at the university level has provided a passion and skills and techniques to train on farm workers. If your farm or ranch needs training, please don't hesitate to reach out so we can explore how I can assist you.
High-quality animal research requires the use of quality animals. Leveraging my network of farmers and ranchers, I began to produce and care for these animals, ensuring they meet the specific needs of the lab. I can provide a range of research subjects across various locations. If you're in need of research animals, please visit the contact page and I'll get back to you promptly.
Growing up on a farm and working on cattle ranches until completing my undergraduate degree provided me with a solid foundation in agriculture. My time as an extension agent, working with various ranchers, further enhanced my understanding of ranch management. The most crucial lesson I learned was the value of people. These experiences, both positive and negative, have since enabled me to guide farm and ranch managers in developing into high-quality leaders who attract top talent. I discovered early on the importance of creating and maintaining a work culture that fosters growth and edification. It took time, but I realized that by helping those around me excel, the organization I managed would, in turn, flourish.
Now, I assist farmers and ranchers in cultivating such a culture within their operations. If you're facing challenges in retaining good employees, or simply aim to improve, please visit the contact tab, fill out the form, and I'll get back to you promptly.
I've had the privilege of working with several lawyers in the Denver, Colorado area, primarily as an expert witness in cases involving personal injury due to animals. My policy is to offer expert witness testimony exclusively in defense of farmers and ranchers, a role for which my background and expertise have uniquely prepared me. Over the past six years, I've served as an expert in over 20 cases, most of which were resolved in favor of the farmer or rancher. Additionally, I have provided testimony on common land use issues and water utilization in farm and ranch operations.
If you are a farmer or rancher facing legal challenges, or a lawyer representing one, and could benefit from expert witness services, please visit the contact page, fill out the form, and I will respond to you promptly.
